Travis Hunter injury update: Deion Sanders on Colorado star's recovery time
Colorado two-way football player Travis Hunter will miss the next three weeks as he recovers from an injury sustained in Saturday's game, head coach Deion Sanders told 247Sports' Carl Reed, Jr.
Should that prediction come to fruition, it would mean Hunter will not be available during arguably the toughest portion of Colorado's schedule, as the team plays on the road against No. 10 Oregon this week and hosts a top-five USC the week after.
The Buffaloes play at Arizona State on Oct. 7, and Hunter could return in time for the home game against Stanford on Oct. 13.
Hunter was taken to the hospital shortly after he absorbed a violent hit from Colorado State safety Henry Blackburn. After being attended to by medical trainers, Hunter was able to return to the game, but only briefly before being pulled off the field and ultimately transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
"The first thing I heard is that he would be out for a few weeks," Sanders told reporters after the game on Saturday. "I heard that for sure. But we will do what we must to take care of him. We got to make sure he is okay. His health is more important."
Hunter, the former No. 1 ranked cornerback prospect and five-star recruit who initially pledged to Sanders at Jackson State, has emerged as a major contributor at both wide receiver and cornerback and has received considerable Heisman buzz for his early play.
Colorado is 3-0 in Sanders' debut season, thanks in large part to Hunter's skill and versatility — and his prominent playing time, logging 87 percent of the team's snaps in the opener against TCU and around 90 percent in the Nebraska game — traits that the Buffaloes will be without over the next few weeks.
