An Amazing Stat Regarding the Complete Game Shutout By Joe Ryan of the Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon by a score of 6-0. While Byron Buxton hitting two home runs provided some history, and Rocco Baldelli's daughter provided some humor in the postgame press conference, one of the real stars of the game was pitcher Joe Ryan.
Ryan tossed a complete game shutout in the victory, allowing just three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. He's now 8-4 on the season with a 2.98 ERA and is putting himself in consideration for a spot on the American League All-Star team.
By throwing a complete game shutout, Ryan did something that is exceedingly rare in franchise history over the last five years.
