In this story:

In what was a historic offensive night around baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks outlasted the Atlanta Braves, 16-13, to win the wildest game of them all.

The Diamondbacks got the 16 runs on 16 hits and scored multiple runs in four different innings.

Five starters had multi-hit games for Arizona, including Christian Walker, who hit two home runs, and Ketel Marte, who went 3-for-5.

The victory also snapped a historic streak that had existed since the beginning of the franchise (1998).

Per Jack Sommers of Sports Illustrated:

The D-backs have never lost when scoring 13 or more. (79-0) They've never won when giving up 12 or more. (0-85)

Something has to give. #Dbacks 13 #Braves 13, going to the 9th inning

So there you have it, the D-Backs are now 1-85 when allowing 12 runs or more in a game. It was a very important win for the Diamondbacks, who had just been swept in Toronto have now fallen out of first place in the National League West.

After the win, the Diamondbacks are 53-42 but they've lost seven of their last 10. They are now in third place in the division, 2.5 games back of the first-place Dodgers. They are currently second in the chase for a spot in the wild card behind the San Francisco Giants.

The Diamondbacks and Braves will play again on Wednesday night at 7:20 p.m. ET. Ryne Nelson pitches for Arizona (5-5, 4.98 ERA) while veteran Charlie Morton goes for Atlanta.

He's 10-6 with a 3.20 ERA. The Braves are 61-32 overall on the year.
