Arizona Diamondbacks' OF Does Something Never Done Before in Team History in Game 1 Win
The Arizona Diamondbacks scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back on Saturday night, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.
As a result of the victory, the D'Backs are now unbeaten in the postseason and are just two wins away from a berth in the National League Championship Series.
The D'Backs got 13 hits in all, hit four home runs and chased future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw from the game after just 0.1 innings on the mound.
The Diamondbacks made some fun history in the win, which we covered here, but there was also this piece of fun information as well.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Alek Thomas' HR on the 14th pitch of a PA is:
- the most pitches in a PA ending in a HR in the postseason since pitch counts tracked (1988)
- the most pitches in a PA ending in a HR in D-Backs franchise history (reg + post)
So that's some team history and some playoff history right there by the young outfielder. The 23-year-old went 1-for-3 in the win with that homer. He now has two home runs in this playoff run.
In 374 at-bats this regular season, Thomas hit .230 with nine homers and 39 RBI. He also stole nine bases.
Lifetime, he's a .230 hitter with 17 homers and 78 RBI.
The Diamondbacks will have an off-day on Sunday before taking on the Dodgers for Game 2 on Monday night.
First pitch in that game is set for 9:07 p.m. ET.
