Atlanta Braves Power Their Way to New Milestone, on Pace to Break Home Run Record

The Atlanta Braves are on pace to break the Major League Baseball single-season team home run record.

The Atlanta Braves got a home run from slugger Matt Olson on Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels.

For Olson, it was his 36th homer of the year. For the Braves? It was their 200th, which leads all of baseball. The next closest team has 168.

Per Grant McAuley, Braves Insider:

Matt Olson's home run was the 200th of the year for the #Braves, who lead MLB by a wide margin and are on pace for 311 HR. That would break the Twins' single-season MLB record of 307 HR, set in 2019.

It's been an unbelievable year from a power perspective for Atlanta. Olson leads the National League in homers, while Ronald Acuna Jr., Austin Riley, Marcell Ozuna, Sean Murphy and Ozzie Albies all provide massive pop as well.

Acuna is likely to win the National League MVP award and is setting amazing baseball records in his own right.

The power at the plate, coupled with some power pitching, is a major reason why the Braves are one of the prohibitive favorites to get to the World Series.

In addition to the lineup, the team's starting rotation is also getting healthier. Max Fried is due to return from the injured list this week and Kyle Wright is expected back this season as well.

Atlanta entered play on Monday as the best team in baseball at 67-36. They are taking on Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels this week before a weekend series with the Chicago Cubs is on tap in Chicago.
