An Incredible Note About the Braves' Game-Ending Double Play in Game 2
The Atlanta Braves rallied to beat the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night (5-4) in Game 2 of the National League Division Series.
As a result, the series is tied at 1-1 as it shifts to Philadelphia.
The Braves rallied from 4-0 down to win the game thanks to some late-game heroics from Austin Riley. The comeback win made some team history, which we covered here.
Furthermore, the insane double play that ended the game also made some baseball history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
The Braves ended their 5-4 win in Game 2 of the NLDS with the first 8-5-3 double play at any point of a postseason game in MLB history.
It also marked the first double play ever involving an outfielder to end a postseason game. @EliasSports
This was truly one of the more memorable plays in recent playoff history. Nick Castellanos smashed the ball to center field with Michael Harris II racing to track it down. Then, the awareness of him to get the ball in quickly - and the awareness of Austin Riley to be backing up the play to double up Bryce Harper.
Game 3 of the series will be played on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:07 p.m. ET.
As of the time of this posting, the Braves have not yet named a starting pitcher but veteran right-hander Aaron Nola will pitch for the Phillies.
He's 1-0 this postseason with a 0.00 ERA and owns a lifetime 3-2 playoff record and a 3.86 ERA.
