Atlanta Braves' Ronald Acuna Passes Another Name on Another All-Time List on Friday

Even in a losing effort, Atlanta Braves' star Ronald Acuna Jr. continues to pile up the historic achievements in 2023, this time passing another name in the National League record books.

Even in a losing effort, Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. makes history.

On Friday, the Braves lost to the Miami Marlins 9-6 but Acuna went 2-for-3, giving him 201 hits for the season.

Per @StatsCentre:

Most stolen bases while also recording 200+ hits in a season - National League history (1876-pres):

104- Maury Wills (1962)

100- Billy Hamilton (1894)

97- Hamilton (1895)

70- Hughie Jennings (1896)

67- Willie Keeler (1896)

66- @Braves Ronald Acuna Jr (2023)

65- Juan Pierre (2003)

To be sixth on that list that spans nearly 150 years shows just how special the year that Acuna Jr. is having is. The National League MVP candidate is also hitting .337 with 37 homers and 98 RBI. He's posted an OPS of 1.004 and will be battling it out with Matt Olson, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman for the award.

Acuna Jr. is also a major reason that the Braves have the best record in the National League at 96-51 and are a serious World Series favorite. They also won the World Series in 2021 but Acuna Jr. didn't play after tearing his ACL earlier that season.

With the win, the Marlins are now 76-72 and 0.5 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the National League.

The two teams will play again on Saturday. First pitch from loanDepot park is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.

Jared Shuster goes for the Braves against Bryan Hoeing.

Shuster is 4-3 with a 5.26 ERA while Hoeing is 2-2 with a 4.04.
