Chicago White Sox' Lucas Giolito Does Something Not Done For Franchise Since 2011
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito accomplished something that no pitcher in franchise history had done since 2011: Throw six no-hit innings on the road at Yankee Stadium.
Sox pitcher Philip Humber was the last pitcher to do that, that year.
That stat came via the White Sox television broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago.
Giolito labored a bit early in this one but settled into a groove. He allowed three walks and struck out seven. He threw 100 pitches, 58 of which were for strikes.
At the time of this posting, the White Sox lead the Yankees, 3-1, in the bottom of the seventh. Joe Kelly relieved Giolito, got two outs and then issued a walk to Willie Calhoun. Following that, the Yankees got their first hit: an RBI double by Isiah Kiner-Falefa that fell between Luis Robert and Andrew Benintendi.
If the White Sox can hold on for the win, Giolito would move to 5-4 on the year. He's got a 3.75 ERA and has struck out 76 in 74.1 innings.
Lifetime, he's 57-51 with a 4.31 ERA. He made the All-Star team back in 2019 when he ended up finishing 14-9.
If the White Sox can win this game, they'll move to 27-35 on the year. A loss would move the Yankees to 36-26.
Because of the Twins loss, a White Sox win would put them within 4.5 games of first place in the American League Central.
The Yankees are holding their breath about if star Aaron Judge is going to need end up on the injured list. There's worry that may have a broken toe.
