Young Cincinnati Reds Players Make Home Run History as Winning Streak Continues
The Cincinnati Reds can do no wrong right now. The Reds have tied a franchise record (since 1961) with a 10-game win streak and will go for the record on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.
In the Tuesday win, a pair of young Reds sluggers made some unique baseball history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson are the 3rd pair of teammates in MLB history to hit their 1st & 2nd HR in the same games.
They join Rob Segedin & Andrew Toles for the Dodgers on Aug. 22 & 23, 2016 and Bernie Friberg & Gabby Hartnett who both had multi-HR games on April 20, 1923.
With players like De La Cruz, Andrew Abbott, Spencer Steer and Matt McLain, the Reds are one of the most exciting young teams in baseball.
De La Cruz went 3-4 with that homer and two runs scored on Tuesday. The team banged out 11 hits in all.
The Reds are now 39-35 and 0.5 games up on the Brewers in the National League Central.
In the loss, the Rockies fell to 29-47. They have the second-worst winning percentage in the National League at .382. Only Washington (3.75) is worse.
The two teams will close out the series on Wednesday when Connor Seabold pitches for Colorado and Abbott pitches for the Reds. He's 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA.
First pitch is slated for 12:35 at Great American Ball Park. The Reds will then be off on Thursday.
