Cincinnati Reds on Pace For Rare Spot in Baseball History This Season
The Cincinnati Reds are getting a lot of publicity lately. Whether it's because of the contributions of young players like Elly De La Cruz or Andrew Abbott, or the activation of Joey Votto from the injured list, or the eight-game winning streak, everyone is talking about the Reds.
Perhaps we should also be talking about the Reds flare for the dramatic and the ability to come back in games.
Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
This season, 62.2% (23/37) of the @Reds' wins have been comeback wins.
Over the last 60 seasons, the only National League team to finish a season with such a high percentage of their victories be of the comeback variety were the Reds, themselves, in 2005 (63.0%).
The ability to come back, be relentless at the plate, and never be out of a game is very important to good teams, and the Reds are embodying that right now.
The Reds are currently 37-35 on the season and are just 0.5 games out of first place in the National League Central.
At time of this posting, they are tied 0-0 with the Colorado Rockies in the top of the first inning. It's the first game back for Votto, who missed the entire season thus far while recovering from shoulder and biceps surgeries.
One of the most accomplished players of his generation, he's a career .297 hitter with 342 homers and 1,106 RBI. An on-base machine, he has a career .412 on-base percentage.
He's a six-time All-Star selection, a Gold Glove winner, and he won the MVP in 2010. He's led the league in OBP in seven different seasons and is a possible selection in the future for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
