Even More Baseball History Was Made During New York Yankees' Domingo German's Perfect Game
New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German threw a perfect game on Wednesday night against the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees won the game 11-0 as German retired all 27 batters that he faced in order.
It was the 24th perfect game in baseball history and the first since Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez did it in 2012.
Simply throwing a perfect game is historic, but there was even more history that came out of the performance.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Last night, the Yankees beat the A's, 11-0. Oh, and Domingo Germán pitched a perfect game. Those 11 runs are the most scored by a team in a perfect game in MLB history.
In addition to the offensive outburst, German became the first player born in the Dominican Republic to throw a no-hitter:
Dominican-born Domingo Germán is the third player born outside the United States to pitch a perfect game in MLB history, joining:
Félix Hernández, Venezuela
Dennis Martínez, Nicaragua
The performance also gave the Yankees some ownership as the Kings of the Perfect Game.
The Yankees now have four perfect games in their history:
Domingo Germán, 2023
David Cone, 1999
David Wells, 1998
Don Larsen, 1956
They break a tie with the White Sox for the most by a team in MLB history.
And finally, German's start was historic given how bad he's recently struggled:
Domingo Germán allowed 10 runs against the Mariners on June 22. He's the first player in MLB history to throw a perfect game after allowing double-digit runs in his previous start.
German struck out nine batters in the performance. The Yankees and A's wrap up their series on Thursday at 3:37 p.m. ET.
