New York Mets Ace Max Scherzer Continues to Dominate the Dodgers in a Way That Almost No One Ever Has

The Mets got a much-needed win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, thanks in part to another great pitching performance from Max Scherzer.

After announcing he was going to pitch through neck discomfort, New York Mets ace Max Scherzer dominated the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On Sunday, the Mets beat the Dodgers, 2-1, as Scherzer went seven innings. He allowed no runs on one hit. He walked three and struck out six. He received a no-decision for his efforts but lowered his season ERA to 3.99.

He also continued his historic mastery of the Dodgers.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Max Scherzer has allowed 2 or less runs in 11 consecutive starts against the Dodgers, tied for the 3rd-longest streak against them since 1893.

Only Ed Reulbach and Christy Mathewson have had longer streaks with 16.

That's certainly elite company for Scherzer, as Mathewson is one of the first great pitchers in baseball history.

Scherzer is one of the best pitchers of recent baseball history.

He's an eight-time All-Star, a three-time Cy Young winner and a World Series champion (2019).

Lifetime, he's 209-105 with a 3.14 ERA. He's struck out exactly 3,300 career batters over 16 seasons with the Diamondbacks, Tigers, Nationals, Dodgers and Mets.

He's won double-digit games in 12 consecutive full seasons (he won five games in the pandemic shortened 2020 season as well).

This year, he's 8-3 with that 3.99 ERA.

After the win, the Mets are 43-50. They have won six of their last 10 games and are now 8.5 games out of the final wild card spot in the National League.

The Mets will be off on Monday before hosting the White Sox on Tuesday.
