Chicago White Sox Shortstop Tim Anderson (Knee) Likely Out Until May
Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson sustained a knee injury that forced him to exit Monday's game early and Tuesday, the club placed him on the 10-day Injured List.
The White Sox announced Tuesday that Anderson is heading to the IL. In a corresponding roster move, the club recalled infielder Lenyn Sosa from Triple-A Charlotte.
The White Sox expect Anderson to miss two to four weeks, the club shared via Twitter.
Anderson sustained a sprained left knee in Monday's game against the Minnesota Twins, while trying to tag a runner out at third base on a double play attempt.
Anderson played just 79 games a season ago, and 123 games in 2021. Anderson also played a total of 123 games in 2019. He has only played a 145 or more games in a single season twice in his first seven Major League seasons.
With Anderson hitting the IL, Elvis Andrus is expected to fill in for him at shortstop. The White Sox signed Andrus last August, after losing Anderson for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Andrus excelled in his 43 games with the White Sox last season, slashing .271/.309/.773 with nine home runs and 28 RBI, earning him a one-year contract to return to the club in 2023.
The White Sox had planned for Andrus to be the club's regular second baseman, but now it appears he will return to his natural position at shortstop, the position he has primarily played since making his Major League debut in 2009 with the Texas Rangers.
