Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene exited Monday's game early, with a right tibia contusion, after taking a comebacker off his shin in the top of the third inning. The club announced later that the X-rays were negative and he didn't fracture the bone.

Greene threw a few warmup pitches and stayed in the game, to record a pair of outs, striking out a hitter and inducing an infield pop-out, finishing off the inning. Greene did not return for the fourth inning, however, making it the shortest start of his young career.

No further updates on Greene and his availability have been provided, but thankfully it sounds like he should be okay, given that there was no fracture.

Even without Greene, the Reds would go on to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1, handing Tampa Bay its third loss of the season. The Rays now fall to 14-3 on the season, but still have the best record in Major League Baseball. They now lead the New York Yankees by 3.5 games in the American League East.

With their victory, the Reds improve to 7-9, moving out of last place. The St. Louis Cardinals now find themselves all alone in the basement of the NL Central, after another implosion from their bullpen opened the floodgates for the Arizona Diamondbacks to score five runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Cardinals are off to a disappointing start, after they entered the season as heavy favorites to repeat as National League Central champions.
