The Minnesota Twins lost a significant part of their offense on Thursday afternoon as starting second baseman Jorge Polanco left the game against the Tampa Bay Rays early with a leg injury.

The following comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Polanco left Thursday's game at Tampa Bay in the first inning due to an apparent leg injury while running the bases, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

ANALYSIS
Donovan Solano replaced Polanco in the lineup at DH. Polanco missed 12 days in May due to a hamstring injury, so hopefully this isn't a significant setback.

Yes, hopefully it's not a significant setback or a recurrence of the hamstring issue. The Twins recently placed Byron Buxton on the injured list and have dealt with the on-again, off-again health of Carlos Correa, so another starter dealing with a health issue is a problem.

He's had 119 at-bats this season and is hitting .252 with five homers and 16 RBI. Lifetime, he's a .270 hitter with 103 homers. He's also made the All-Star team in his career, back in 2019.

At the time of this posting, the Twins and Rays are tied 0-0 in the top of the third inning. Minnesota entered play at 31-31 and in first place in the mediocre American League Central. They entered at 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.

The Rays entered play at a league-best 45-19 and winners of five straight. They did get some bad news recently on the health of second baseman Brandon Lowe, who was put on the IL.
