New York Yankees' Frankie Montas Gets Positive Development in Injury Rehab
The New York Yankees are welcoming back a trio of key contributors this weekend against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the door is now open for them to get back another one later this season.
While it's not definite, the team could see starting pitcher Frankie Montas before the season is over, per Greg Joyce of the New York Post.
Some more Yankees news: Frankie Montas started a throwing program on Tuesday, and while he still faces a long road ahead, it keeps the door open for a possible late-season return
A throwing program is hardly a guarantee, but it's optimism nonetheless. He's been out all season with a shoulder issue.
Acquired at the trade deadline in 2022 from the Oakland Athletics, the right-hander went 1-3 for the Yankees with a 6.35 ERA.
He made his major league debut in 2015 with the Chicago White Sox but really made strides when getting to Oakland. He owns a lifetime 36-35 record and a 3.90 ERA in 129 games.
He won a career-high 13 games for the A's in the 2021 season.
Montas isn't the only Yankees starter to miss time this year. They were without Luis Severino for the first 1.5 months of the year and still haven't seen Carlos Rodon take the mound yet. He's been out with forearm and back problems.
The Yankees are currently 34-24 and in third place in the American League East. They'll open up the series with the Dodgers on Friday night as Clayton Kershaw pitches against Luis Severino.
