The San Francisco Giants are planning on getting back injured starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani next week, per reports.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

DeSclafani (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

ANALYSIS
DeSclafani is expected to require just one rehab start, setting the right-hander up to rejoin the Giants rotation next week. He has been on the shelf since early July due to right shoulder fatigue and posted a 4.44 ERA across 17 starts prior to being deactivated.

While his numbers aren't special this year, any help the Giants can get for the playoff push is welcomed. San Francisco enters the second half of the season at 49-41 and 2.5 games back in the National League West race.

They currently hold the third and final wild card spot, but only by 0.5 games.

The 33-year-old DeSclafani is in his ninth year in the big leagues with the Reds, Giants and Marlins.

He's 4-8 this season and owns a lifetime 54-56 record and a 4.15 ERA.

This is the second piece of pitching news the Giants have revealed in as many days: they just announced they were pushing back ace Logan Webb in an effort to reduce his workload for the second half.

The Giants open up the second half on Friday night when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates.

First pitch from PNC Park is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
