Key Seattle Mariners Player Still Facing Injury Issues, Heading For MRI
Seattle Mariners utility standout Dylan Moore is still not feeling right, health-wise.
He was recently pulled from a rehab assignment and will now head for an MRI. While the initial injury for Moore is an oblique, this injury is described as more of core issue.
That it's not related to his oblique is perhaps a good thing, but Moore did have surgery on his core this offseason, so there's concern there as well.
Moore is a key piece for the Mariners, who have slumped to a 9-11 start through the first 20 games of the season. He has the versatility to play each position on the field (except catcher) and was being counted on to provide a right-left platoon with Kolten Wong at second base. Wong has limped to an .098 batting average in the early going so Moore's anticipated return was looming large.
He is a career .225 hitter against LHPs. That may not seem like much, but he's a career .198 hitter against righties, so that is a significant difference.
The 30-year-old signed a three-year contract worth $8.875 million this offseason.
The injury to Moore isn't the only one that the Mariners are dealing with this season. They've lost 2020 gold glover Evan White for multiple months with a hamstring issue. Starting pitcher and 2021 Cy Young winner Robbie Ray is out with a flexor issue and top reliever Andres Munoz is out with a deltoid issue, although he is slated to come back soon.
The Mariners will host the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at 9:40 p.m. ET.
