Tampa Bay Rays' Tyler Glasnow Leaves Rehab Start with Injury
The Tampa Bay Rays are the best team in baseball. They entered Wednesday with a league-best 29-8 record. We wrote the other day about the historic start they are off to.
It would be scary how good the Rays could be if they got back starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who could help fill the void left by Jeffrey Springs, who is out for the year.
Unfortunately, Glasnow cannot stay healthy. He missed a lot of 2019 with a forearm issue, underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2021 and missed most of 2022.
He's been out with an oblique injury for all of this season and now, he left a Triple-A rehab start on Wednesday with "generalized left-side tightness."
Tricia Whitaker of BallySports put out the tweet:
'Tyler Glasnow update after he was removed after the first inning of his second rehab start (was expected to go four). Glasnow has generalized left-sided tightness, very mild in nature. It was a mutual decision for halting outing. And as Rays explained it “there was no upside in pushing through tightness at this stage.”'
When healthy, Glasnow is one of the best pitchers in baseball. He had a 1.78 ERA in 2019 (12 starts), a 2.66 ERA in 2021 (14 starts) and had a 1.35 ERA in two starts last year.
For his career, he's 20-20 with an ERA of 4.00. He made his major league debut with the Pirates in 2016 and was traded to the Rays in the 2018 season.
At the time of this posting, the Rays and Orioles are tied 0-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
