Texas Rangers Announce Problematic Update on Important Starting Pitcher
As the Texas Rangers try to figure out if they are acquiring Max Scherzer or not in a trade with the New York Mets, they did receive some problematic news on starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Eovaldi won't start Sunday against the Padres due to some soreness in his elbow, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander had his start skipped early in the week for rest purposes after he had a dip in his velocity during his previous start July 18, but he's apparently dealing with some soreness in his elbow. Manager Bruce Bochy said an MRI came back clean and a trip to the injured list isn't currently being considered, though that could change depending how Eovaldi feels over the next couple days. At the very least he doesn't seem likely to take the mound for the Rangers until at least next weekend's three-game set versus the Marlins.
Eovaldi was named to the All-Star team this year and has had a big first year in Texas. He's gone 11-3 with a 2.69 ERA over 19 starts and is a major reason why the Rangers are in first place in the American League West entering play on Saturday.
He's in his 12th year in the big leagues with the Marlins, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, and Rangers.
Lifetime, he's 78-71 and helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series, when they beat the Dodgers.
The Rangers and Padres play Saturday night at 8:10 p.m. ET.
