As injuries continue to accumulate in Colorado Rockies camp, the club is calling for a reinforcement.

The New York Post's Jon Heyman is reporting that outfielder Jurickson Profar has agreed to a one-year, $7.75 million deal with the Rockies, with the potential for a $1 million bonus. Profar would need to make 400 plate appearances in 2023 in order to collect the bonus.

Profar, who at one time was a top prospect in the Texas Rangers' farm system, was acquired by the San Diego Padres in a trade for Austin Allen in December 2019.

Profar proved to be a key piece to the Padres' puzzle, that resulted in the club reaching its first National League Championship Series since 1998. Profar slashed .243/.331/.723 and collected 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 152 games, while patrolling left field for San Diego.

Profar also has been used in a utility role before. IN 2021, he spent time at second base, center field, first base and right field, in addition to playing left field.

Though the regular season hasn't even started yet, the Rockies have been hit hard by the injury bug. Outfielder Randal Grichuk has been ruled out for Opening Day, after undergoing sports hernia surgery last month. first baseman C.J. Cron and outfielder Charlie Blackmon are both currently dealing with back issues. Rising star second baseman Brendan Rodgers, as well as outfielder Sean Bouchard could both be sidelined for the entire season after undergoing surgery.

Kris Bryant played just 42 games in his first season with the Rockies in 2022, and was scratched from a start early last week, causing some concern among fans.

After getting off to an impressive 8-3 start to open last season, the Rockies were looking like they could be a surprise contender for a National League Wild Card spot. The club, however, finished 68-94, dead last in the National League West.

Profar will soon report to Rockies camp in Scottsdale, Arizona.
