Boston Red Sox' Rafael Devers Out to Sizzling Start

There are certainly questions about the Boston Red Sox in 2023, but one thing that's not a question is the production of Rafael Devers. He's been outstanding this season after signing a 10-year contract extension in the offseason. He is second in Major League Baseball in extra-base hits with 11 and is hitting .273 overall. The Red Sox are 8-9 and will start a series with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

There are a lot of questions, fair questions, about the 2023 Boston Red Sox. There's questions about the Red Sox lineup and its depth. There's questions about the starting rotation, there's questions about Chris Sale specifically, and there's questions about the general direction of the franchise.

One thing there's not a question about though is Rafael Devers.

The uber-talented third baseman signed a 10-year, $313.5 million extension this offseason and is certainly living up to his end of the bargain.

For the season, he's hitting .273 with seven home runs and 16 RBI, but he's really been dialed in over the last 10 games.

On Tuesday, the MLB Network tweeted a graphic to show just how good he's been of late:

"Rafael Devers continues to bring a spark to the @redsox lineup, collecting 6 HR and 14 RBI in his last 10 games. He has the second most XBH so far this year in MLB (11)."

This is just a continuation of a great run to start a career for Devers. At just 27 years old, he's already a two-time all-star (2021-22), a silver slugger winner, and he's received MVP votes in three separate seasons.

He's a lifetime .282 hitter with 146 career home runs and he helped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2018 and helped the team advance to the ALCS in 2021.

The Red Sox chose him this offseason as the pillar to build around after letting both Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts go in recent offseasons.

The Red Sox will open a series with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday at Fenway Park.

First pitch is 7:10 p.m. ET.
