Chicago White Sox Rescue a Pit Bull Named Leo Ahead of 'Dog Day!'
The Chicago White Sox are 8-21 this season. They are one of the biggest disappointments in the league, having dealt with injuries, underperformance and in Luis Robert's case, lack of hustle.
But off the field, the Sox are receiving praise on Tuesday. The team unveiled 'Leo," a rescued pitbull puppy that is serving as the team's "pup correspondent" during "Dog Day" at the stadium.
The White Sox tweeted a picture of Leo saying "Leo, a Pitbull rescue, is the team's first official four-legged #SoxSocial correspondent for tonight's celebration of Dog Day."
He's a dog with a gray body and a white face. He also wears a White Sox bandana and wore a Sox jersey.
The team received praise on social media from members of the baseball media who are also canine enthusiasts.
Alanna Rizzo of the MLB Network tweeted:
"@Now the @whitesox are WINNERS for doing this! Thank you so much for rescuing a pit bull! They get such a horrendous rep but are wonderful dogs! Adoption & rescuing saves lives! Well done, White Sox!!!"
Kyle Glaser of Baseball America echoed those sentiments:
"We've adopted and rescued two pit bulls. They truly are amazing, smart, sweet, playful dogs that have been wonderful additions to our family. I echo Alanna here in encouraging everyone to adopt. Great job White Sox."
This is the second great dog-related news we've covered here in the last week: The Phillies adopted a rescue pup named "Major" and are training him so he can be paired with a veteran.
The White Sox play the Twins tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET.
