Justin Verlander Posts Instagram Reel from 40th Birthday with Kate Upton
Justin Verlander turned 40 years-old Monday, and over the weekend, his wife Kate Upton threw him a surprise birthday.
Monday, Verlander posted an Instagram reel showing videos, photos and highlights from his 40th birthday party.
Verlander also included a caption, describing the momentous occasion.
Verlander's caption reads, "The big 40! Thank you to my wife, family & friends for surprising me with the best Verlander Vices birthday party! I appreciate all the love!"
Upton and Verlander have been together since they started dating in early 2014. The two married in Tuscany, Italy in November 2017, days after Verlander won a World Series with the Houston Astros.
Verlander won another World Series, as well as his third American League Cy Young, in 2022, but will be pitching for a new club next season.
Verlander agreed to a two-year, $86.7 million contract with the New York Mets in December. He joins a rotation that includes Max Scherzer, Kodai Senga, Jose Quintana and Carlos Carrasco. Senga, Quintana and Verlander will all be new additions to the Mets' rotation.
Verlander essentially replaces two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, who signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Texas Rangers just days earlier.
The Mets are coming off a 101-win season, in which they made their first trip to the postseason since 2016. The club led the National League East for much of the season, but squandered a 10.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the final days of the regular season.
The Mets hope to build upon their success in 2023, and will try to win their first division title since 2015. The Braves have won the NL East five straight years and counting.
