LISTEN: Boston Red Sox Insider Discusses Chris Sale, Alex Verdugo and Trevor Story

In this story:
The Boston Red Sox had a wild walk-off win against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Fenway Park. The win moved the Sox to 9-9 overall on the season and they've won four of their last five games.
Alex Verdugo had the game-winning hit for the Sox in that one, and he also had quite the reaction afterwards, swearing up a storm on live TV. You can see that interaction here. Remember it is not suitable for work.
Verdugo is off to a great start for the Red Sox this season, and it's welcome development as he enters his fourth year in the organization. He was the main piece acquired in the Mookie Betts trade before the 2020 COVID season.
He's currently hitting .348 with one home run and 7 RBI. He also has posted an .880 OPS. For his career, he's a .289 hitter with 45 homers and 208 RBIs.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora challenged Verdugo in the offseason to play stronger and be more impactful, and thusfar, he's done that for the Red Sox, who are now even for the season at 9-9.
Red Sox Insider Tom Caron of NESN joined 'The Brady Farkas Show' on WDEV Radio in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York and discussed the evolution of Verdugo's game.
Caron also talked about the outing of Chris Sale on Tuesday night against the Twins. Sale went six innings and struck out 11. We covered his start here.
He came into this game with an ERA over 11 and ended up going six innings vs. Minnesota, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and the 11 strikeouts. Minnesota is currently leading the American League Central, so this was no small feat.
Sale underwent Tommy John Surgery before the 2020 COVID season and missed the entire season, then spent most of 2021 rehabbing. He had a health issue that cost him most of the early part of 2022, and then missed the back half of the season after taking a line drive off the hand.
All told, Sale had thrown just over 48 innings entering over the last three years prior to this season, so major questions have been out there about his health and effectiveness moving forward.
He's 115-76 for his career with a 3.08 ERA. He's a seven-time all-star who has six different Top-5 Cy Young finishes.
Finally, Caron outlined the optimism surrounding the possible return of infielder Trevor Story, who has been out all season and was anticipated to most of the season. He had an elbow procedure this offseason.
Story was signed to a six-year, $140 million contract before the 2022 season started. He played just 94 games for the Red Sox last year after dealing with other injuries. He hit .238 with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs.
Story, 30, spent the first six years of his career with the Colorado Rockies. He is a two-time all-star who has received MVP votes in three different seasons.
The Red Sox and Twins play tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET. Corey Kluber will be opposed by Joe Ryan.
