MLB Insider Suggests Which Washington Nationals Could Be Dealt Ahead of Trade Deadline
Earlier on Monday, Jon Morosi of the MLB Network was on social media talking about trade discussions between the Rangers the Pirates.
Later on Monday, he was on social media again, talking about the Washington Nationals as we move to within a month of the trade deadline.
The #Nats are popular sellers because of bullpen arms like Kyle Finnegan, but one rival team official told me Ildemaro Vargas could add value for a postseason team.
Vargas, a switch hitter, has started games at 4 different positions this year and has a 102 OPS+.
The 31-year-old Finnegan is in his fourth year in the majors, all with Washington. He's worked in 189 games in his career, all in relief and has posted a 3-3 record with a 3.90 ERA this season.
He's struck out 32 batters in 30.0 innings.
As for Vargas, he's in his seventh big league season with the Diamondbacks, Twins, Cubs, Pirates and Nationals.
He's hit .277 this year in just 65 at-bats. He also has 10 RBI and a .288 on-base percentage.
After that tweet, Morosi added another Nationals name to the list:
Jeimer Candelario is another #Nats veteran who will be popular in talks between now and the Aug. 1 trade deadline. Candelario, a switch hitter, is enjoying arguably his best all-around @MLB season. His expiring contract increases the chances of a deal.
He's hitting .261 this season with 10 homers and 36 RBI. He has played for the Cubs and Tigers in addition the Nationals.
Washington opens a series with the Mariners on Monday night at 9:40 p.m. ET.
