New York Mets Go Viral For Awesome Upcoming Ballpark Giveaway

The New York Mets are leaning into the mystique of Kodai Senga's "ghost forkball."

The New York Mets may not be playing great on the field this year, but they are certainly doing well in the marketing department.

The team went viral on Tuesday when it was circulated that they'd be doing a ballpark giveaway centered on the "ghost forkball" of pitcher Kodai Senga.

Sarah Langs of MLB.com posted about the giveaway on X, formerly known as Twitter:

The Mets are giving away the "glow-in-the-dark ghost fork ball" before the game on August 25th, leaning into the mystique of the pitch that Senga brought over from Japan when he signed with the Mets this offseason.

Senga has been a positive development for the Mets this year amid many other disappointments this season. He recently made history after another seven-strikeout performance this past weekend against the Atlanta Braves.

He's 9-6 with a 3.30 ERA this season, his first in Major League Baseball. He's struck out 149 batters in 122.2 innings this year and has made 22 starts.

After the Mets traded away Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer at the trade deadline, Senga is now the ace of the staff and figures to be a big part of the rotation for years to come.

The Mets lost to the Pirates on Tuesday night by a score of 7-4. They are now 54-66 on the season and in fourth place in the National League East. They are also 8.5 games back in the wild card race as the season slips away from them.

They'll play the Pirates again on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. ET.
