It feels like every night, we're writing about something historic with regards to New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso and his power.

Earlier this week, we wrote about Alonso hitting the most home runs in Mets history in the team's first 50 games.

On Thursday, we're writing about this piece of history, courtesy of ESPN Stats & Info. In this one, Alonso tied... himself?

Pete Alonso with his 19th HR ties himself from 2019 for the most HR before June by a Mets player in a single season in franchise history

With still nearly a week left in May, it seems likely that Alonso will break this record and hit at least his 20th home run before June.

As of this posting, the Mets are pummeling the Cubs, 10-1. Alonso is 2-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBI. His home run came in the seventh inning.

In addition to the 19 homers this year, Alonso has 45 RBI and is hitting .239. His 45 RBI rank third in the majors behind Adolis Garcia of the Rangers and Yordan Alvarez of the Astros. The 19 homers lead baseball.

For his career, Alonso is a .259 hitter with 165 homers and 425 RBI. He's added 11 steals.

The former second-round draft pick out of Florida won the Rookie of the Year award in 2019 and is a two-time All-Star selection. He's received MVP votes in two separate seasons as well.

If the Mets hold to win this lopsided game, they'll move to 26-25 on the season.
