New York Yankees' Gerrit Cole Does Things He Hasn't Done All Season in Loss to Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees were blown out once again by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday as Gerrit Cole struggled in a way he hasn't all season.

The New York Yankees were blown out again by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The final score was 8-1 as Boston outhit the Yankees, 12-2, and got home runs from Rafael Devers, Connor Wong and Luis Urias. The latter home run was a grand slam and made some very special history.

Not even ace Gerrit Cole could save the Yankees from suffering their seventh consecutive loss. He went just four innings, surrendering six earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.

He took the loss, falling to 10-4 on the year with a 3.03 ERA. The performance was something that we haven't seen from Cole all season long.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

ANALYSIS
Cole unraveled in the second inning, giving up back-to-back singles and a walk to open the frame before surrendering a grand slam to Luis Urias. The right-hander would last just four innings, marking his shortest outing of the season, while also allowing a season-high six earned runs. He came into Saturday's contest having not allowed two home runs in a start since May 28 and he's now lost his last two decisions (spanning three starts).

The Yankees will try to snap their record-setting losing streak on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Red Sox again at 1:35 p.m. ET.

The Yankees are 60-63 and 8.0 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the American League.

Boston is 65-58 and 3.0 back.
