Philadelphia Phillies' Bryce Harper Cleared From Injury, to Return Tuesday vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Philadelphia Phillies are getting a boon to their starting lineup as star Bryce Harper has been cleared to return to the field beginning Tuesday.
The Phillies will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers at 10:10 p.m. ET.
It's the first action for Harper this season after he underwent Tommy John Surgery last November.
Harper's return could ignite the Phillies, who are currently 15-14 and in fourth place in the National League East. The team has dealt with additional injuries this season as well, as first baseman Rhys Hoskins is out for the season with a torn ACL.
It's notable that Harper will not need a minor league rehab assignment despite not getting any spring training this year. He's been working out with the Phillies for multiple weeks now and we reported on him getting swings in a simulated setting recently here.
Harper will likely serve as a designated hitter upon instant return but he's been working out at first base in an effort to get back to playing defense sooner -- and to reduce stress on his arm.
Harper recently told 'The Athletic': “If I can give them whatever they want from first base, or right field, or whatever it is — not just this year, but going forward — it gives us an opportunity,” Harper said. “Whatever it is. Whatever they want. It gives them the option to do that.”
For his career, Harper is a .280 hitter with 285 home runs. He is a seven-time all-star who won the MVP award in both 2015 and 2021 in the National League.
He helped the Phillies advance to the World Series in 2022, where they lost to the Houston Astros in six games.
