The Philadelphia Phillies will open a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ballpark Thursday night at 6:40 p.m. ET.

The Phillies are trying to dig themselves out of an early whole they have created for themselves, beginning the season at 4-8. With World Series hopes, the 2007 Phillies got off to a 3-10 start, but Charlie Manuel's team was able to turn it around, finishing 89-73 at the top of the National League East. The Phillies would go on to win the division five years straight and win a World Series title in 2008. The Phillies repeated as National League champions in 2009. In 2022, Philadelphia won the NL Pennant for the first time since 2009.

The Phillies hope to overcome a slow start the same way Charlie Manuel's club did in 2007.

Since opening the season 3-1, the Reds have dropped six of their last seven. They enter Thursday standing at 4-7.

The Phillies will give the ball to starting pitcher Bailey Falter (0-1, 2.61 ERA), who will make his third start of the season. Budding star Nick Lodolo (1-0, 1.50 ERA) will take the mound for the Reds, as he makes his third start of the year.
