Texas Rangers star shortstop Corey Seager was placed on the injured list on Wednesday afternoon with a hamstring injury that was suffered on Tuesday night. It's listed as a Grade-2 strain.

He'll miss at least four weeks with the injury. It's a big blow to a Rangers team that is trying to contend in a deeply talented American League West. The Rangers haven't made the playoffs since 2016.

Seager left Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals in the fifth inning with that hamstring issue and was replaced by Josh Smith. Smith, or Ezequiel Duran, are expected to be the replacements for Seager.

Reports from manager Bruce Bochy indicate that Marcus Semien will not slide over to shortstop, despite having extensive shortstop experience in his career.

Seager is in the second year of a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers and is off to a fantastic start this year, hitting .359 with one home run and four RBI, and posting an OPS of 1.007.

For his career, he's a .287 hitter with 138 home runs. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping them win the World Series during the shortened 2020 COVID season.

The one bit of good news for the Rangers is that they are getting outfielder Leody Taveras back from injury. He's been activated and will add speed and depth to the outfield.

At the time of this posting, the Rangers are leading the Royals, 1-0, in the top of the second inning.

The Rangers entered play today 7-4 overall and in first place in the American League West, 0.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels.
