Umpire Comments on Yankees' Domingo German's Ejection on Tuesday Night
In a series of rising tensions at Rogers Centre, New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German was ejected Tuesday night for the use of "sticky stuff."
While German maintains his innocence, the umpires didn't buy it, as Bryan Hoch of MLB.com noted after the game:
Crew chief James Hoye said that Domingo German’s hand was the “stickiest I’ve ever felt” and that it was “definitely not rosin.”
This is not the first instance of a "sticky stuff" violation that we've seen this year as Mets pitcher Max Scherzer was ejected from a game against the Dodgers. He maintained his innocence as well.
As a result of the ejection, German now faces a 10-game suspension and his absence would be a big loss for a Yankees team that hasn't gotten any contributions yet this season from Carlos Rodon or Frankie Montas.
Luckily, Luis Severino could be ready to come back this weekend, so maybe he can take German's spot in the rotation.
It's another blight on the resume of German, who has also served a suspension for violating the league's domestic violence policy (2020-2021).
This year for the Yankees, he is 2-3 with a 3.75 ERA. He's struck out 49 batters in 48 innings and has a 0.90 WHIP.
For his career, he's 28-24 in 101 games with a 4.31 ERA.
The Yankees are currently 25-19 on the season while the Blue Jays are 24-18. The two teams will play again Wednesday night in Toronto. First pitch is 7:07 p.m. ET.
Gerritt Cole will be opposed by Chris Bassitt.
