WATCH: Chicago Cubs' Cody Bellinger Homers in Dodger Stadium Return
Chicago Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger hit a home run Sunday in the final game of his club's weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The weekend series was Bellinger's first return to Dodger Stadium, since the club nontendered him upon the conclusion of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.
Facing former teammate Julio Urias, Bellinger sent a 1-0 fastball into the right field bleachers, for his third home run of the season. It was also the second home run on a pair of back-to-back jacks, as third baseman Patrick Wisdom homered just moments before Bellinger stepped into the batter's box Sunday.
After playing the first six years of his Major League career for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Bellinger signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs in December. The deal includes a mutual option for 2024.
Bellinger is hoping to recapture the magic of his 2019 season, when he slashed .305/.406/1.035, while blasting 47 home runs and driving in 115 RBI. That season, he was named the National League MVP.
In the three seasons since, Bellinger slashed .203/.272/.648 with 41 total home runs 134 total RBI.
Bellinger is now slashing .250/.322/.784 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games with his new club.
One night earlier, Bellinger took away a home run from former Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward. Bellinger received a mix of boos and cheers for his outstanding catch.
Friday night, Bellinger received a pitch clock violation when he took a moment to receive cheers in his first at bat back at Dodger Stadium.
