WATCH: New York Yankees' Aaron Boone Ejected from Wednesday's Game vs. Guardians
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected in the first inning of Wednesday afternoon's game against the Cleveland Guardians, after he took exception with a decision from the umpires at Progressive Field.
Guardians designated hitter Josh Naylor hit a fly ball to center field. At first glance, it appeared Yankees center fielder Aaron Hicks made a nice, sliding catch to record an out. The umpires called Naylor out.
Shortly after, the umpires reviewed the call, and overturned the initial decision, calling it a hit for Naylor. Boone was unhappy with the call, but he seemed to be even more unhappy that it did not appear that the Guardians called for a challenge.
Boone blew his top and chewed out the umpiring crew. The sequence should make for a great video breakdown from Jomboy Media.
Wednesday is the final game of the Yankees series against the Guardians. Entering Wednesday, the series was tied one game a piece. It is the first series being played between the two teams since the clubs met in the American League Division Series last year. Despite trailing 2-1 to Cleveland, New York emerged victorious, defeating the Guardians in five games.
Through their first 11 games, the Yankees are 7-4. Despite their strong start, the Yankees are already four games back of first place, as the Tampa Bay Rays have opened the season 11-0. It is the best start for the Rays in franchise history.
The Toronto Blue Jays are tied with the Yankees at 7-4, in second place of the American League East.
