The Atlanta Braves have suffered yet another injury to a key player.

Starting shortstop Orlando Arcia is going to head to the injured list after sustaining a microfracture in his left wrist on Wednesday night. He was hit by a pitch.

The Braves tweeted out an injury update on Thursday night saying: "SS Orlando Arcia underwent an MRI and CT scan that revealed a microfracture in his left wrist. He will be placed on the injured list."

They added that "RHP Ian Anderson underwent successful surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, TX."

It's been one injury after another for the Braves this season. In addition to Arcia and Anderson, they lost ace Max Fried to a hamstring injury right after Opening Day, they've been without closer Raisel Iglesias all season and they've been without starting catcher Travis D'Arnaud for the entire week after going on the concussion injured list. Here's an update on all three of those players.

It's a tough break for Arcia, who was off to a great start this season for the Braves. He's hitting .333 through 13 games and received a contract extension right before the season started. He's also recently drawn praise from people around the game, including former MLB executive Steve Phillips.

While it's just speculation, it appears that prospect Vaughn Grissom could get the call to take the spot of Arcia. He was surprisingly beaten out by Arcia in spring training for the starting job after a strong showing in 2022 after his debut.

In 141 at-bats last year, Grissom hit .291 with five home runs and 18 RBI. He is a former first-round pick, taken No. 11 overall by Atlanta in 2019.

The Braves open a weekend series with the Royals on Friday night at 8:10 p.m. ET. The Braves are currently 9-4.
