Conor McGregor has once again taken aim at Islam Makhachev, this time over a rant on Jon Jones' pound-for-pound status.

Makhachev is the reigning UFC lightweight champion. While he has only had one successful title defense thus far, he already wants to call the shots on the UFC's official pound-for-pounds rankings.

The 155-pound titleholder, who is set for a rematch with UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski at UFC 294, told reporters that he doesn't think Jon Jones deserves the number one spot on the official pound-for-pound list.

"If you're real champion, you have to take fights," Makhachev said. "Doesn't matter how many days, who it's gonna be, not like your pound-for-pound champion. They give him Chael Sonnen. If you're real champion, you have to fight. They put him the number one guy right now. Who he beat last five fights?"

"This guy is a gumbeen," McGregor wrote. "This is what happens when cousins have sex and have a child together. This is the result."

This certainly isn't the first time McGregor has taken shots at Makhachev. In the past, the "Notorious" one has called Makhachev a "steroid cheat." McGregor has also taken aim at Khabib Nurmagomedov's camp in general over the past several years.

McGregor is eyeing a comeback after fracturing his tibia and fibula in a July 2021 clash with Dustin Poirier. UFC wants to book McGregor vs. Michael Chandler at some point in 2024.
