UFC Fighter Dustin Poirier Makes Bold Statement On Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira Rematch
With signs seemingly pointing to a rematch between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier has an interesting take.
Back in October 2022, Makhachev submitted Oliveira in the second round of their UFC 280 main event to capture the UFC Lightweight Championship. A rematch between Makhachev and "do Bronx" was scheduled to headline UFC 294 last month, but Oliveira suffered a cut during sparring that forced him out of the event.

UFC CEO Dana White has not officially confirmed Makhachev vs. Oliveira has been rebooked, but he has said it would make sense. Speaking to Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie, Dustin Poirier shared his belief that a 100 percent focused Charles Oliveira can give Islam Makhachev problems.
"If Oliveira's mindset's in it, if he's the same guy who fought me, who fought Chandler I think he can win that fight," Poirier said. "I don't think he wanted to be in that title fight. He looked like he didn't wanna be there, he quit on himself it looked like. That's my opinion, but I know personally he has the skills to beat the best guys in the world and he has done that time and time again. If he goes in there with his mindset locked in, ready to go, I think he can beat him."
Makhachev has said he'd rather fight Justin Gaethje than have a rematch with Charles, but he's willing to do what the UFC brass asks of him. If the fight does get rebooked, it'll be interesting to see if Oliveira can turn the tables and win his second UFC lightweight title.
