Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Latest Update On Potential Title Unification Fight

Will Fury vs. Usyk eventually come to fruition?

There is a positive update on a potential heavyweight title unification clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury is currently gearing up for a crossover fight with former UFC heavyweight champion and current PFL fighter Francis Ngannou. The two will collide in a boxing match in Saudi Arabia on October 28. While boxing purists have heavily criticized the matchup, "The Gypsy King's" team has attempted to be a little more reassuring of a possible fight against Usyk in 2024.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk meet in person, stoking the flames for a potential boxing heavyweight title unification bout.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Todd Duboef of Top Rank Boxing, Fury's American promoter, said that the goal is to ultimately book the WBC champion against Usyk, who holds the WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles.

"Absolutely," DuBoef said. "I think we were plagued by timing in this last go-around. Timing from both guys just didn't match up and we were trying to squeeze this fight in, in the spring, before the Dubois-Usyk mandatory had to happen. There were a bunch of circumstances, so the good news is Usyk came out of the fight with Dubois. Some people thought he didn't look as good as they thought he would, but it was a really good, competitive fight."

Duboef insists that if Tyson Fury is able to defeat Ngannou as many are anticipating, then it'll open the door for the massive undisputed heavyweight boxing title matchup.

"Tyson is going to stay razor-sharp and hopefully is going to be fighting the baddest man on the planet, and they're going to be going at it. I think, soon after that, it would be appropriate, and the stars should align for timing purposes, that the unification happens very soon."

Usyk is coming off a successful title defense over Daniel Dubois. The bout didn't end without controversy, however. A fifth-round low blow from Dubois to Usyk has been heavily debated, as some believe the punch was legal and should've been scored a knockdown. Ultimately, Usyk scored a knockout win in round nine.
