Taylor is set to put his WBO and The Ring junior welterweight titles on the line against Lopez. The two will collide inside Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This will be Taylor's first fight since being stripped of the WBA, WBC, and IBF gold for not fighting mandatory challengers. It'll also be his first outing since his controversial February 2022 bout against Jack Catterall.

As for Lopez, some are left to wonder what his mental state is going into the fight. After "The Takeover's" lackluster split decision win over Sandor Martin in late 2022, he questioned to his corner if he still has "it" anymore. Lopez has since claimed it was a strategy. He's also claimed that he wants to take Taylor's life in the ring, which likely led to their heated exchange during the weigh-ins.
