David Bollea ended up having a rough night when he stepped into the cage to take on Paul Garza at Fury Challenger Series 5 in Houston, Texas last weekend.

The nephew of legendary pro wrestling star Hulk Hogan, Bollea made his MMA debut in 2008 and began his career with three victories that included a win over future UFC veteran and recent The Ultimate Fighter bantamweight finalist Cody Gibson in 2010.

Back-to-back stoppage losses saw “King” take an extended absence from fighting, but after returning in 2021 he proceeded to go on an impressive five-fight win streak where he submitted all five of his opponents inside the first round.

A Fury FC veteran, Bollea’s opponent Garza entered the night on a two-fight win streak and had some early success when he dropped the 42-year-old just seconds into the bout.

Bollea did manage to get back to his feet after the initial knockdown, but Garza was unrelenting with his pressure and eventually sent “King” crashing face-first into the mat in the waning seconds of the opening round.

Garza has now stopped three-straight opponents in the first round, while Bollea suffered his first loss since 2012 and will have to start building a new win streak whenever he steps into the cage next.
