Roy Jones Jr. isn't sold on Canelo Alvarez's chances against Dmitry Bivol in a rematch.

Back in May 2022, Canelo challenged Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight championship. It became quite clear throughout the bout that the punching power Canelo had possessed in both the middleweight and super middleweight divisions wasn't enough to faze the much bigger Bivol. Canelo lost the fight via unanimous decision, which was his first defeat since 2013.

While an emerging contender in David Benavidez seems primed for a shot at Canelo's undisputed super middleweight gold, the titleholder insists on having a second crack at Bivol. During an interview with Fight Hype, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. scoffed at the idea of Bivol vs. Canelo 2.

"I don't see him beating Bivol in no kind of way because Bivol's a bigger guy," Jones said. "Bivol has a style that's definitely not really in line with what Canelo wants to fight, in my opinion. Their styles don't match."

Instead, Jones is vouching for Canelo vs. Benavidez. He explained why.

"That's the perfect matchup for a great fight," Jones said. "Why would we not wanna see that over the Bivol fight? I don't know. Many people don't really think he can beat Bivol. Now, if he can beat Bivol, he'll do something really incredible because he'll change a lot of our minds, but because of how lopsided the first fight was, we don't really see him beating Bivol. So, why would you not go ahead and fight David?"

Jones went on to say that he thinks Bivol would beat Canelo by an even wider margin in a rematch. He shared his belief, which is a popular thought in the boxing world, that the ringside judges scored the first fight far closer than they should have.

The International Boxing Hall of Famer also dared Canelo to prove he's still the king of the super middleweight division by taking on the challenge of Benavidez.
