McGregor, irked by remarks made by Brown during a May 27 interview with Michael Bisping, sent Tweets out to his followers where he brought up Brown's history with heroin addiction, and his knockout loss to Donald Cerrone:
"Ya'll wanna see a dead body?" McGregor shared the UFC fight of Brown losing to Cerrone:
Brown appeared to take it in stride, however, as he replied in his own Tweet, "*former user* vs current coke addict let's go":
"The Immortal" also had a response for the Cerrone Tweet:
"This guy woke up, did a bump, and started tweeting. I love it. I don't know how to post gifs and shit wouldn't be hard to find one of him getting his face smashed lol."
Discussions surrounding Brown vs. McGregor arose when Brown tied for the most knockout finishes in UFC history alongside Derrick Lewis, after finishing Court McGee at UFC 288.
Soon after, McGregor remarked on Twitter:
"Matt Brown, at 42 years of age, now holds the joint highest KO's inside the UFC with 13KO's. Him and "The Beast" Lewis are tied. I hold 8 KO's inside the UFC currently, at 34 years of age. I'm getting this record."
During the May 16 episode of the "Fighter vs. Writer" podcast, Brown jovially replied to McGregor's Tweet, stating that he'd fight McGregor for the record:
"I'd fight [McGregor] for [the record], wouldn't you? It's like f*** yeah, bro, you want the record? Come get it b****.
"I think it would be a great fight and --- I don't think [McGregor's] actually coming back, I'm pretty well convinced he's never going to fight again. I think he just likes being in the spotlight; he likes people talking about him; he likes the ego boost. That kind of stuff."
It was relatively silent up until Brown instigated more drama by insulting McGregor and calling him a "bum" during the interview with Bisping. Now the farce is over, and the ill-intent can begin.
