Update On UFC Legend Khabib Nurmagomedov's Coaching Status
A key figure throughout Khabib Nurmagomedov's career has cleared the air on "The Eagle's" coaching status.
Nurmagomedov has been out of the pro MMA competition game since 2020. He retired with a perfect pro record of 29-0. Nurmagomedov hung around in the MMA scene, coaching a slew of fighters and often being in the American Kickboxing Academy gym to share his wisdom with fighters. The former UFC Lightweight Champion has taken a step back, however, as he's been more focused on spending time with his family.

With that said, there's one misconception that AKA head coach Javier Mendez felt the need to clear up. During an interview with "The Schmo," Mendez discussed whether or not Nurmagomedov has stopped coaching altogether.
"One thing people don't understand, he never said he wouldn't coach people," Mendez said. "He said he's not gonna be in the corner and travel to fight camps because he's spending time with his family. Never said he wouldn't come and visit here and there and train the guys. He's never said none of that. So, he's still holding to everything he's ever said, and he's never said 'never' either. So, I'm hoping at some point he can come back and help me because him being in the corner is such a huge motivator for the guys and me. Then, my job's easier. I don't have to worry about hardly anything. I just sit in the backseat and let him drive 'cause he's one hell of a driver."
Nurmagomedov has beaten the likes of Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Dustin Poirier to name a few. He now sees his longtime friend and teammate, Islam Makhachev, rule the UFC lightweight division just as he predicted. "The Eagle's" cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, is the reigning Bellator Lightweight Champion. Both Makhachev and Usman have benefited from Nurmagomedov's mentoring.
