BREAKING: UFC 298 Fight Undergoes Major Change Due to Injury /

One bout on the UFC 298 card has undergone a major shakeup.

Fight fans will be pleased to know that the planned main event title fight between UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria remains intact. There is one key bout that had potential title implications for one fighter planned for the pay-per-view event, but it will no longer be happening.

UFC 298: UFC Unveils Poster for Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria

The Orange County Register is reporting that Tatiana Suarez is off of her originally scheduled women's strawweight matchup with Amanda Lemos due to an undisclosed injury. This was a big chance for Suarez to make a statement and possibly get closer to a UFC title opportunity.

It wasn't meant to be, but the good news is a replacement has already been found. The report also notes that Suraez has been replaced by Mackenzie Dern. It's a solid opportunity for Dern, who will look to wipe away the memory of her TKO loss against Jessica Andrade back in November 2023.

Here is a look at how the UFC 298 card, which takes place on February 17, is shaping up so far (no order):

  • Alexander Volkanovski (c) vs. Ilia Topuria - for the UFC featherweight championship
  • Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry
  • Merab Dvalishvili vs. Henry Cejudo
  • Anthony Hernandez vs. Ikram Aliskerov
  • Mackenzie Dern vs. Amanda Lemos
  • Marcos Rogério de Lima vs. Justin Tafa
  • Zhang Mingyang vs. Brendson Ribeiro
  • Andrea Lee vs. Miranda Maverick
  • Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa
