UFC 300: Sean O'Malley Questions Cody Garbrandt's Health Ahead of Next Fight

"Holy s***, is that CTE?"

Sean O'Malley is excited to see how things play out when Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo square off at UFC 300, although he does have some concerns about the health of Garbrandt's brain.

Scheduled to take place on April 13 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, UFC 300 is finally starting to look like the must-watch card that fans have been asking for after Dana White confirmed it will feature a strawweight title fight and a matchup between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway for Gaethje’s BMF belt.

Another strong addition to the event is the bantamweight tilt between former UFC champions Figueiredo and Garbrandt, but O’Malley recently questioned whether or not it was a wise move for “No Love” to request that matchup.

Cody Garbrandt UFC 300

Garbrandt is coming off his first knockout victory since 2020.

“I’m so surprised Cody called for that fight,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “It shows you that one - he’s either really dumb, or shows you two - he’s like f***ing really confident and really mentally still there… Cody said I was jealous of him the other day. I was like ‘Holy s***, is that CTE?” It’s gotta be."

A former bantamweight titleholder, Garbrandt won back-to-back fights last year for the first time since 2016 and called for a matchup with Figueiredo after he knocked out Brian Kelleher at UFC 296.

“Deus Da Guerra” successfully debuted in the bantamweight division last month when he took a unanimous decision over Rob Font. That matchup saw the Brazilian meet his first new opponent in almost three years following an epic four-fight series with Brandon Moreno for the UFC flyweight belt.

O’Malley unfortunately won’t feature as part of the highly-anticipated UFC 300, but “Sugar” is scheduled to headline UFC 299 and defend his bantamweight title for the first time in a rematch with Marlon “Chito” Vera on March 9.
