Undefeated UFC Fighter Ian Garry Gives his Prediction for Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington
Ian Machado Garry is absolutely certain that Leon Edwards will "smash" Colby Covington in their welterweight title fight at UFC 296 this December.
First, Garry was keen to besmirch the skills of his rival Covington:
Speaking to 'SportingPost', Garry got bold giving his prediction for the monumental showdown, "Leon is going to f****** smash Colby if they fight.
"Colby has zero striking," Garry insisted. "He just runs at you to grab ahold of you, [he] gets you against the cage and takes you down to sit and lie on you. He's so un-entertaining in the octagon --- it's ridiculous."
"The Future" continued to praise his fellow training partner Edwards, explaining how "Rocky" has the keys to success against Covington:
"I've trained with Leon, I've seen the striking," Garry explained. "Leon is so crisp and clean. And going off their previous fights, Colby lost to [Kamaru] Usman twice. Usman lost to Leon twice, so I don't see any world where Covington beats Leon Edwards."
Garry then gave his official prediction for the December matchup, and vowed to "retire" Covington should they ever fight:
"I think Leon is going to defend all of his takedowns and stop him on the feet. I think he'll knock him out, and I absolutely am going to fight Colby at one stage of my career, and I am going to thump the mouth off him, and I promise you I will retire him."
Garry shared the same sentiment about the matchup back in August before it was made official, where he picked apart Covington's resume before predicting an Edwards victory:
"[Covington] gets so much credit for losing. I'm telling you now, Colby Covington is not what he's [being made out to be]. Leon Edwards will just dispose of him in that octagon. ...The biggest thing Colby Covington has done is lose to Kamaru Usman twice... twice. Leon has gone out and beat Kamaru Usman, twice."

With Garry now slated to fight Vicente Luque at UFC 296 alongside the Edwards vs. Covington matchup, he has the rare opportunity to fight for the contender position and call for the loser of the main event on the same night. If he can make it happen, it will certainly be a fan-pleasing decision.
