Da'Mon Blackshear stunned spectators with an incredibly rare twister submission over Jose Johnson at UFC Vegas 78. Blackshear's twister victory is one of three twister finishes in UFC history, joining the likes of The Korean Zombie and Bryce Mitchell.

The last twister finish came from Bryce Mitchell in December 2019 against Matt Sayles, and prior to that, The Korean Zombie finished Leonard Garcia in 2011.

Blackshear dominated the fight from the opening seconds, landing effective body kicks and enduring the offensive pressure of Jose Johnson. "Da Monster" took the fight to the ground with a trip, and resumed landing some solid ground and pound. As the fight progressed, Blackshear smothered Johnson and found the positioning for a twister, where he patiently waited for Johnson to give up position before locking the highlight submission in.

Blackshear's twister is possibly the front-runner for the rarest submission of 2023, with only one instance. In 2022, six submissions were joint-first for the rarest of the year, with one apiece: Arm Triangle in the clinch, Keylock, Kimura, Rear-naked choke from back crucifix, scarf hold, and von flue choke.

This victory marks the second UFC victory for Blackshear and his second finish in a row. With two fantastic highlights, Blackshear can expect to fight for a ranked position in his next few outings.
