Heisman Trophy Winner Daniels Gives NIL Advice
The Heisman Trophy is the most coveted individual award in sports and LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels took home the honor over the weekend, etching his name in the history books and now forever to be introduced as "Heisman Trophy Winner Jayden Daniels."
Daniels beat out Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, Bo Nix of Oregon, and Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State, to take home the prestigious award.
Coincidentally, Daniels, Penix Jr. and Nix all transferred to their new programs, showing the impact of transfer portal and the ever-changing NIL industry.
During the Heisman Trophy weekend, Daniels was asked about the best NIL advice he had received, and his answer was eye-opening (h/t Koki Riley of The Daily Advertiser):
"All money ain't good money" is a testament to players searching for loads of cash in the portal and through NIL partnerships. Daniels' advice should certainly put the industry into perspective for athletes currently weighing compensation packages across the country.
According to On3's NIL valuation, Daniels has a $1.6 million NIL valuation, which is high for college athletes and should increase after the Heisman. USC freshman basketball player Bronny James - who made his college debut over the weekend - currently leads with a valuation of over $5 million and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado is next at $4 million.
Daniels holds a flurry of NIL deals - including Raising Cane's, Powerade and Pearce Bespoke - and he recently gave back to his LSU coaching staff and administrators, gifting HEYDUDE shoes through his partnership with the brand.
For college players, a large amount of money would certainly be enticing - but finding the right situation is also important - and Daniels has been able to cash in on both fronts.
