Atlanta Hawks And Houston Rockets Make A Trade
The Atlanta Hawks made a salary-saving move ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday, as they traded veteran Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky to the Houston Rockets for Bruno Fernando and Garrison Mathews, first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Adrian Wojnarowski: "The Hawks are trading Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky to Houston for Garrison Matthews and Bruno Fernando, source tells ESPN."
According to Wojnarowski, this is a cost-cutting move by Atlanta and they will also be sending two second-round picks to the Houston Rockets as a result.
Traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Atlanta Hawks in the offseason, Justin Holiday has not made that big of an impact on the Hawks, averaging just 4.5 points per game while shooting 34.5 percent from three-point range this season.
As for Frank Kaminsky, his value has been low in Atlanta given the emergence of Onyeka Okongwu behind Clint Capela at the center position.
Bruno Fernando will now fill that No. 3 center spot left behind by Kaminsky in Atlanta.
The Rockets continue to rebuild and by moving Mathews and Fernando, two bench talents, they are able to acquire two veteran players who could still be moved, as well as two future second-round draft picks.
Houston has also traded away veteran guard Eric Gordon ahead of the trade deadline.
